Jamberoo

Jamberoo, South Coast, near Kiama, NSW

Timber frame, post & beam structure of about 100 sqm plus about 40 sqm loft.

The structure below is a double garage with plumbing and electricity. The building will be used as a home by the owner builders while the main strawbale house is being built.

Poly-trusses and timber roof trusses being erected on concrete slab

Ready for the baling weekend. Note the wide overhangs of about 900mm on the north and south side (long sides) providing protection to the strawbale walls.

Note the roofline at east and west (short)sides sloping from 1.5 metres overhang at ridge to 750mm overhang at the end. This unusual design was inspired by Balinese architecture.

After three days of a wall raising working bee the strawbale walls are stacked, pre-compressed and stitched to almost completion. Strawbale wall detail. Metal bracing has been wrapped in Hessian, walls are pre-compressed with High Tensile wire and Gripples and stiched with galvanised wire, ready to be spray rendered with clay.

Rendering commences. The clay used here has been supplied by our company.

Second coat of clay render has been completed and is drying out.
